Site and gaming news

I’ve been busy looking for a new host for my website. Roadrunner gives me 5 MB, which I thought was pretty weak to begin with and I’ve already filled it up, preventing me from posting more pictures. They offer more space at the cost of 1MB for $0.99 /month. That’s not horrible, but I think I could get a better deal by either switching cable companies and going with Wide Open West or find a web host. If I go with WOW, for $59.99 a month, they offer basic cable and 1.5 Mbps cable modem access. That comes with 3 IP addresses and 10 MB of space. That’s decent, but not a lot more than I’ve already got, it would just be cheaper. I’ve found a couple places to host online, I just haven’t decided which way to go yet. If I could find something for less than 30 bucks a year, I’d go the hosting route, that way if and when we move I can maintain all my stuff in one place. I am also changing the name of the site. It’ll no longer be “Nice To Know You”. It’ll be “shimmer”. I’ll explain why the change later, but first I have to think of a cool address. www.shimmer.com, .net, and .org are already taken (obviously) so I have to come up with something clever. We’ll see what happens. I’m busy doing other important things. Sort of.

I say I’m busy with other important things, but the truth is I’ve just been playing Splinter Cell on the Gamecube. It’s a pretty cool game, I know all the Xbox fan boys were wetting their pants over it, but I wouldn’t go that far. The graphics and sound are tight and the control is chunky at first but it’s second nature now. Everyone made a big deal about real-time lighting, which can only be done on the xbox, but I think the graphics look just fine on the Gamecube. There are some spots where there are some clipping problems but they don’t detract from the game. I just think it’s cool to act like a covert ops agent, free to dispose of the bad guys at will. Grabbing someone from behind and forcing their face into a retinal scanner must be pretty fun to do.
