  • Maurice Clarett…

As I’m sure many of you have already heard, there was an article in the NY Times about Maurice Clarett getting special attention because he was an athlete. I don’t think there’s a college with an elite sports program that doesn’t have issues like this. There is also some discussion about Clarett and some possible NCAA rule infraction dealing with something going on with him and LeBron. The link is to the article but you have to register with the NYTimes to read it. (it’s free, they just ask for an email address).

Ohio State to Examine Special Help for Clarett: “Geiger told the newspaper that he did not think the N.C.A.A.’s investigation would lead to Clarett’s losing part of his eligibility for the upcoming season, but added: ‘That doesn’t mean it won’t change. As of now, he’s fine.’ “

Related to this story is that supposedly the teaching assistant who went to the Times is in trouble for not going through the proper channels at the university. It has also been stated the she’s been in an out of mental institutions in the past, for whatever that’s worth.

In the end, I think this will blow over and not leave a scratch on the Buckeye’s rep.

  • The Memorial Tournament

We got to go to the Memorial Tournament on Friday. That is always a good time, it’s very cool to see the PGA Pros up close and personal. Tiger tee’d off early this morning so we didn’t get to see him much, but we did get to see Jack, Goosen, Janzen and O’Meara, among others. We watched O’Meara chip out of the sand on 13, right into the cup. That was pretty cool.

As far as Columbus celebrity sitings, we saw none other than Coach John Cooper. He seemed like a nice guy, we were standing right next to him at the green on 13, and he said hello and was very cordial. I think he got a bum rap in Columbus. I liked the guy a lot, but I just don’t think his coaching style was appropriate for OSU. OSU football players need discipline and structure and he didn’t seem to give them any so they walked all over him. It’s too bad, he had some of the best OSU teams ever. That is until this guy named Jim came along.

  • The Cleveland LeBronaleirs

The Cavs won the LeBron Lottery!! Woohoo!

  • Buckeye football news

So I just read that the outstanding linebacker from Air Force, Anthony Schlegel, just transferred to Ohio State. While he does have to sit out this year he is going to be a big impact player for the Buckeyes. With him and D’Andrea at linebackers, look out!

  • Spanish Buckeyes

I learned the spanish word for Buckeye today in church but I forgot what it was already. Unfortunately, Google’s language tools couldn’t help me out, either. But here’s the translation of the recap of the Buckeyes win, so you can practice your Spanish!

Our local ABC station re-broadcast the Fiesta Bowl this afternoon. It was certainly more enjoyable watching it the second time around. For one I didn’t have to worry about 4th and 14 during the first overtime again. Knowing what would happen allowed me to bask in the Buckeye victory-love. It was a great thing.

One thing that was still unnerving about watching the game was listening to the commentators. I love Kieth Jackson and will never blaspheme his name, but Dan Fouts, my goodness. How this guy ever got the chance to be the commentator on this game is beyond me. I’d rather listen to Musberger or Danielson, and that’s saying a lot. It was not a great thing.
