  • Selling your life on eBay

I am amazed at the stuff people put on eBay, but this story (dead link) talks about this guy, whose story is probably the most famous.

After putting everything he couldn’t fit in his car up for sale on eBay he actually wrote a book called All My Life for Sale where he finds some of the people that bought his stuff. He calls it artistic. I call it a sad commentary on people caught up in the internet hype that is eBay. There are web sites all over that troll eBay for weird stuff. This has only fueled a desire for people to put weirder and weirder stuff there. I think the people that got caught up in this guy scheme were duped into buying his crap by thinking they were part of history. All they have done is shown how things on the internet quickly get out of hand.

  • Job hunting on eBay

So if you’re like me, you are struggling to find a job in the current sluggish market. Well, you can always do what these people did (dead link): sell yourselves on eBay!

  • Job happenings

The job market seems to be gathering a head of steam. I usually do a weekly check of the job sites I use (Monster, Hot Jobs, Flip Dog) and I usually have the same results: nothing. Today, I had to update my resume on Monster because there was a job that sounded really cool! It was from a place in Westerville called Lake Shore Cryotronics and they are looking for someone with semiconductor processing and MEMS experience. It might not be a 100% fit, but I’m willing to give it a try.

  • Expensive burger

How ironic. Right after posting that message, I read about the most expensive hamburger ever. Forty-one dollars? Now, 20 ounces is a big burger and Kobe beef is the best, but two bucks an ounce? I’d like to try it.

  • McDonalds

For some reason, I knew it was bound to happen. For the first time in its history, McDonalds wasn’t profitable. Now, I know it’s probably because I found out I have Type 2 Diabetes, high blood pressure, and high cholestrol and have stopped my weekly visits for two double cheese burgers, but I think things were set in motion a long time ago.

People are smart, contrary to what you would think when someone tries to sue McDonalds for making them fat. A large majority of people scoff at the stupidity and are able to choose for themselves. And people are doing just that, choosing a better way. In the case of fast food, a healthier way. I know I am growing tired of the whole burgers and fries thing. I personally am addicted to burritos. Healthier? Probably. Tastier? Absolutely. Can I get them from McDonald’s? Sorta.

You see, I think McDonalds (and other fast food chains) are hedging their bets on a fast food flop. McDonalds has a large stake in Donatoes Pizza (ok not exactly going the healthy route there) and Chipotle Mexican grill. Wendy’s also has ties to the Mexican Fast Food restaraunt Baja Fresh. Maybe it’s not so much a “healthier food” trend but a Mexican Food trend. Afterall, the Census Bureau just reported that Latin Americans make up the largest minority now.

Whatever it is, I don’t think McDonalds or the other fast food companies will go away. They need to evolve, but they aren’t going anywhere.

Now, if Burger could figure out that meatless Whopper…
