  • Job offer update

We still haven’t decided 100% what we are going to do about the job at LM. To both Greta and I, Virginia just doesn’t feel right. I finally got a little more information about the job from one of my (would be) managers and his description just doesn’t really excite me. My title would be “Systems Engineer” which sounds cool but it just doesn’t seem to be my idea of engineering. One thing he said was “We do not build hardware” This was kind of a buzz kill because that’s one thing I would like to be involved with. That’s not to say that I wouldn’t enjoy being a systems engineer, it just seems like moving to another state to take a job that I don’t find interesting would be a mistake. Another hang up I have is that I didn’t actively pursue this job, they sought me out. While that is a great ego boost, I went into the interview knowing next to nothing about the job. It just doesn’t seem to be what I want, even if it is a job in a jobless market right now.

I would probably take this type of job if it wasn’t out of the state. As far as my pros and cons go, location trumps a job I’m not excited about. We are thinking that we’ll stay here while I continue to look for a “better” job. That might still be out of state, but it would be something I really like. I’ve also tossed around the idea of law school for the past few years, so I may pursue that idea. I am also going to get some information about taking a course to be a patent agent. They don’t make as much as patent/IP lawyers, so that is also an option.

    We shall see!

  • In case you were wondering

Just so no one freaks out, those are magnetic ear rings. Greta did look mad but she immediately guessed they were fake. I guess I don’t get to pierce Corinne’s ears anytime soon.

    Oh well.

  • The prank!

I have gone and done something that is gonna FREAK OUT Greta. Wanna know what it is? Take a look at this picture:

    Corinne, the piercing!

I’ll let you know how she reacts later.

  • Job Offer!

As I wrote a little while ago, I was invited to Lockheed Martin for an interview. I had the interview on Monday at the recruiting offices of the Washingtion Metro Area, and the interviews went fairly well. They were a little shaky on the details, but since most of the info is top secret type stuff, I wasn’t really sure what they were offering. It didn’t seem like I would be doing many technical things or stuff I had studied. I wasn’t sure which way I was leaning.

Well, as Wednesday afternoon, they have extended me an offer. Two, actually, but I think they are in the same area. Right now I am waiting on the official written version of the offer, they said it should arrive this Friday. I am excited to at least be offered a job. I am anxious to see what comes of it. We aren’t leaning one way or the other right now. I’d say I’m 55% going, 45% staying. That could change with the details, so we’ll see. As always, I’ll post something here so everyone can keep tabs on me.

  • BuyMusic

BuyMusic.com :: “BuyServices, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Buy.com, announced today that it will provide web services for BuyMusic.com, the world?s largest subscription-free legal music download store for the country?s 150 million PC users. Formally known as United Commerce Service Inc. (UCS), BuyServices will power the store, which will be fully integrated with digital and hard goods. “

I’ve always favored buy.com over Amazon (I made my first online purchase at buymusic.com before it became what it is today) so I’m pretty excited about this new site. I’m not sure what format the songs will be delivered in, I just want to see this work instead of the RIAA suing everyone in the country for downloading illegal music.
