  • College football talk

Well I can’t say I’m not surprised. I really thought USC was gonna be too much for Iowa to handle. I was torn between who to root for. I want to see the Big Ten do well in their Bowl games but at the same time I want to see the most untalented, uneducated, repulsive excuse for a human being, Trev Alberts be wrong. After having his lips surgically attached to the collective rear end to the Iowa Hawkeyes football team, it is good to see him wrong on so many fronts. (Don’t even get me started on his partner, Mark May. (I didn’t get any good links on him. All I got at ESPN.com is this) I’ve known two year olds who understand college football better than he does. Where does ESPN find these trolls?) I think Alberts will supplant Bret Musberger as the most hated Sports Analyst in Columbus. One of the greatest moments of College Gameday this year was at the OSU/Michigan game. Some hero had a sign that said Trev Sucks, Kirk Rules. Hahahahah, that made me laugh.

I will say one thing for Alberts (and May to a lesser degree): he know how to vault himself into the limelight. He’s playing to a tried and true technique that works in the WWE: Be a heel. Even though people hate you for the vapid and insipid comments you make you are nonetheless getting attention. He knows the Big Ten has a HUGE fan base and that OSU’s is probably the biggest. This allows him to make comments that are based solely on his obtuse opinion but he delivers them in such a way that he offends people to the point of making people hate him solely due to his comments. His comments are discussed on talk radio, on internet discussion boards and between fans everywhere. People here hate him. He couldn’t step foot in Columbus, people would pummel him beyond recognition. But ask anyone in Columbus who Trev Alberts is, and they’ll know.

Back to Iowa. I had felt Iowa was a decent team but I held strong to the belief that they were out of their league, especially matched up against USC. Had the Buckeyes played them this season I think we would have rolled over them. Yeah, Banks did well and Russell is a good back and their defense played big, but they are still Iowa. The only images that come to mind when I think of Iowa are the days of the stand-up tight-ends. I always thought that was pretty cool. But I would have liked to see the Big Ten run the tables during the bowls and make Alberts, May, and ever other worthless journalist who said the Big Ten was weak. Although Penn State looked bad the Big Ten has had a good showing thus far and will hopefully have continued success tomorrow.

    Tresselball. I like it.

    Dan Patrick (dead link) rules.

This article nearly made me cry.

  • Christmas Wishes

Another successful Christmas has come and gone. I didn’t really ask Santa for much. All I really want is to see my Ohio State Buckeyes spank the Miami Hurricanes in the Fiesta Bowl. No one is giving them a chance except us here in Columbus. We can’t wait.

  • Miami fans

Just got this in an email from a friend. I had to share it with all the Buckeye fans out there:

A primary teacher starts a new job at a school in Miami, Florida and, trying to make a good impression on her first day, explains to her class that she is a Miami fan. She asks her students to raise their hands if they, too, are Miami fans. Everyone in the class raises their hand except one little girl.

The teacher looks at the girl with surprise and says: “Mary, why didn’t you raise your hand?” “Because I’m not a Miami fan,” she replied. The teacher, still shocked, asked: “Well, if you’re not a Miami fan, then who are you a fan of?”

“I’m an Ohio State fan, and proud of it,” Mary replied. The teacher could not believe her ears. “Mary, why are you a Ohio State fan?”

“Because my mom and dad are from Ohio, and my mom is an Ohio State fan and my dad is an Ohio State fan, so I’m an Ohio State fan too!”

“Well,” said the teacher, in a obviously annoyed tone, “that’s no reason for you to be an Ohio State fan. You don’t have to be just like your parents all of the time. What if you mom was a prostitute and your dad was a drug addict and car thief, what would you be then?”

Mary smiled, “I’d be a Miami fan.”

  • Go Buckeyes

Even though ABC is their parent company, ESPN gets my congratulations of finally giving Ohio State its due respect. This article (dead link) calls them “Big Ten’s national title contender”. The finally got one right. I’m not saying the Buckeyes are a lock for the Fiesta Bowl (in my mind they are, but let’s be realistic) but I am saying I’m tired of the national sports media bad mouthing OSU. A lot will be proven with this game with Penn State but I like our chances.

  • Buckeyes on a roll!

The Buckeyes are 8-0! Woo hoo! After watching the first three plays of the game I thought we were going to blow Wisconsin out, but they played tough. I enjoyed the game but I detest ABC Sports announcers. I miss Keith Jackson! Jack Arute isn’t too bad but I wish I could reach through my television and strangle Musberger and Danielson. I sometimes wonder if they are busy kissing each other during plays or have their eyes closed. They made countless errors, attributing tackles to players nowhere near the play, consitently missing penalty calls, and generally bad mouthing the Buckeyes. Danielson kept referring to a “challenge” that Clarett had made to Anthony Davis. I know he was referring to the ESPN the Magazine article about Clarett, but come on! Clarett made no such “challenge” to Davis. I tip my hat to Davis, he played a heck of a game, but Danielson was way out of line. I’m just glad to see Ohio State leave Camp Randall with a win. Go Bucks!
